Foster

Are you ready to become a Foster Parent? Our most pressing need is finding loving foster parents and safe and secure foster homes. For every dog that is fostered, another dog can be saved from the shelter. Quite literally, our success depends on the boundless compassion and generosity of our foster parents.

What does a Foster Parent do? A foster parent gives shelter—a safe and secure home, which many of our dogs may never have experienced. A foster parent gives unconditional love and patience, which helps to build a dog’s confidence. And a foster parent prepares the dog for a forever home. Bonaparte’s Retreat does everything else! We provide all food, treats, flea, tick, and heartworm treatment, training and advice, and all vet and medical care.

What about very-short-term fostering?  Host a sleepover or a bow-wow breakout!
Short-term fostering gives our dogs opportunities to spend time with new people in new environments, to have a sleepover in a real home, and to benefit from the best kind of socialization there is: quality home time (or trip time, or camping time). No matter how temporary, being with pup-lovers who can shower them with love and individualized attention is the best medicine for a shelter dog.
  • Planning a one-night or weekend “stay-cation,” time to chill at home? An adoptable pup who doesn’t usually get the chance to be in a real home could make your stay-cation unlike any other.
  • Taking a short weekend trip? Ever thought of taking along a furry friend, one who spends most days and nights in a shelter environment? Take one of our adoptable dogs along for the trip!
  • Going camping? Maybe one of our adoptable dogs would be just the ticket for the best camping trip you ever imagined! A camping, hiking, and sleeping partner all in one.

Finally, we ask our foster parents to care for the dogs as if they are personal pets. Fostering can be hard—but it’s one of the most rewarding things you can do as an animal lover. Any of our foster parents will tell you that the rewards far outweigh the difficulties. Imagine the gratitude and reassurance you will feel when a once neglected or unloved dog finally finds his forever home to call his very own. If you are one of these extraordinary individuals, please consider opening your home and your heart by becoming a foster parent.
